The Hershey Press Building - Hershey, PA

Technical Assignments

Technical Assignment 1 is an analysis on of the ventilation requirements. Using ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2007, you must identify the required ventilation rates for the building, compared to the existing ventilation air, to ensure the Hershey Press Building has adequate fresh oustide air and optimumindoor air quality. Also included in Tech 1 is an energy analysis of the Hershey Press Building. Using ASHRAE Standard 90.1 - 2004 to identify minimum energy efficiency requirements, including the energy requirements for the building envelope, HVAC systems, equipment, lighting and power systems.

Technical Assignment 1

Technical Assignment 2 anaylzes the annual energy consumption and operating costs of the Hershey Press Building. Trace, an energy simulation software, was used to tmodel the monthly and annual utility consumption as well as the room/zone loads and airflows. Using this information, in conjucntion with the utlity costs, a monthly and annual building operating cost can also be determined.

Technical Assignment 3 focused on the evaluation of the current mechanical system. A current energy anaylsis and system research was conducted. While the system design was an energy efficient and fit well within the Press Building’s architecture, there were a few design challenges and obstacles the building is currently facing.  By addressing these problems and providing possible solutions, the cost, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort can be improved for the building and its occupants.
